Pete Rock was raised in Mount Vernon, but his face belongs on Mount Rushmore. The Chocolate Boy Wonder perfected an art form, inspired millions, and soundtracked a generation. By contrast, Teddy Roosevelt seems like a chump.

This is the man who Dilla told, “I wanted to be like you.” Kanye once called himself the “new Pete Rock.” But the original Pete Rock remains permanently vital. The evidence bangs in his latest opus, Petestrumentals 2, the sequel to the 2001 classic that helped define the hip-hop instrumental record. It marks the legend’s first album on Mello Music Group, a fitting union between the author of the boom-bap blueprint and the label that’s expanded upon his legacy.

Describing Pete Rock’s productions do them little justice. They resonate in your gut, heart, and brain. The title of one of these beats says it all: “Makes Me Feel Like.” You fill in the blanks based on your personal experience and current mood.

Petestrumentals 2 conjures memories of BBQ cookouts and 70s Blaxploitation scores, rattling summer jeep cruises and blunted Jamaican vacations. There’s a gorgeous requiem to Dilla (“Dilla Bounce (R.I.P),” where the originator pays tribute to the prodigy. You see the full range of Rock’s gifts on display: the meticulously chopped horns, unquantized drums, and air raid sirens. It contains the emotion of a thousand eulogies.
No record can’t be resurrected. There’s no sub-genre or era that can’t be converted into Rock’s singular brand of soul. His music is the closest thing we’ll ever get to a time-traveling DeLorean, effortlessly shifting between past, present, and future.

For the last 20 years, hip-hop heads have argued over the best Pete Rock original productions and remixes. Is it “They Reminisce Over You” or the “Shut ‘Em Down Remix?” Do you prefer Soul Survivor or the first Petestrumentals, his work with INI or the UN? His catalogue can’t be compressed into a bio; you need a book.
This is the latest chapter—an even 20 slaps and rhythmic levitations. It’s Pete Rock at his best, accelerating and kicking cosmic slop, extending wishes, hope, love, gritty drums and eternal wonder.

Keith ‘Wildchild’ Middleton – “Transitions”

unnamed
A mainstay of the NY underground Hip Hop scene, rapping and producing for his group HYDRA and his crew The Plague, Keith “WildChild” Middleton is also a lead performer in the cast of Stomp. Keith has traveled the globe, has been featured in commercials for McDonalds, Volkswagon, Toyota, and Honda, has starred in the hit iMAX movie “Pulse: a Stomp Odyssey” and various films and television shows from Sesame Street (with Elmo) to Third Watch (alongside DMX) to The Oscars (twice!). To say he is a versatile performer is an understatement. A true renaissance man, WildChild also teaches body percussion globally and was a comedic choreography consultant for the animated movie “Robots.”

Having been a team player for years, in Stomp, HYDRA and The Plague, Keith is now branching out on his own, releasing his debut album “Transitions” on MCMI Records. An absolute labor of love, that came about after a near fatal car wreck made him realize that “Carpe Diem” would be his mantra, the spoken word/fusion album includes soul, funk, jazz, afro-beat, dance and Hip Hop, all music and tracks composed and produced by Keith himself, with guest appearances by HYDRA and a vast array of accomplished vocalists and musicians.

The title “Transitions” is self-explanatory, as Keith chronicles his transition to manhood, independence and self-fulfillment, including everything from relationships, to addiction, to honor, to the birth of his children. But its not all deep and serious, Keith has something for the playful, the dance crew, the MC, the poet, the lover and the fighter. Release of the physicals will be announced along with the Album Release Party, in the upcoming weeks. Checkout the first single/video off the album, “FeelsGood,” directed by Brandon Polanco (3 of A Kind Productions).

In 2014, Fel Sweetenberg is back with a new project. This time, he is accompanied by The Incredible Beatmaker “DJ Brans”, full steam ahead with The EFFISCIENZ’ team for this new release out of Paris, France. This is a wise choice, the sharp and powerful flow of New Jersey’s rapper fits perfectly on Dj Brans most effective production. This album is really personal, the lyrics are a reflection of what inspired Fel, his city: Camden, NJ. That is why there are very little guest features. He is joined by Almighty, who accompanies Fel on a track, “Hyena’s Den” where the two emcees seem to compete in a bestial flow and finally DJ Djaz murders the track at the end with the cuts and scratches. Also featured on the project are Dirt Platoon, the most infamous group out of Baltimore, on “End of The Book” and as always they bring an incredible energy to the track. In short, “The Invisible Garden” is a project that seems flawless, complete with variations in the different states of mind of Fel Sweetenberg over really dope production which is Real Hip-Hop Tradition. We assure you, listen to this…Urgently!!!

“Naked City” is the 1st single of MC Melodee’s new EP called “Coolin”.
This song takes you back to the days of Wildstyle and graffiti bombed NYC subway trains.
Alongside MC Melodee’s raspy voice “Naked City” also features AG of the legendary D.I.T.C. crew, both flowing over an hardknockin 80s instrumental produced by Brady James. The video is directed and recorded by Cut and Dry Productions in Harlem & the Bronx during Melodee’s US Trip last winter.

Centri – Boric Acid (prod. by Dynamics Plus)

Centri - Boric Acid (prod. by Dynamics Plus)

While staying in the cut and dropping audio bait, throughout the past couple of years, Centri is managing pest control with skill, science and precision. This is the first release, off his upcoming album ‘Headless Nobody’ [Pre-Order] (feat. Skyzoo, Sha Stimuli, Akir, Blaq Poet, Awkword + more.), that doesn’t have an assisted feature and is a good test as any to establish himself as a go to for lethal, addictive, head trip, Hip-Hop music. With this latest release titled ‘Boric Acid,’ it feels like another setup to plant his black flag once again, reinforcing his credibility for delivering his coined niche style of Hip-Hop, keeping his true fans intoxicated, and steady fumigating through the non-believers.
